Who should avoid GLP-1 injectables?
At Alloy, safety is always our top priority. While most people are good candidates for GLP-1 medications, there are certain situations where they should be avoided.
You should not take GLP-1 injectables if you:
Have a history of allergic reactions to the medication
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have low blood sugar or a history of significant hypoglycemia
Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer
Have a personal or family history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome Type 2
Have a history of pancreatitis
In our recent Weight Care in Midlife discussion, Dr. Corinne Menn also shared that there are very few true contraindications, but certain rare medical conditions such as significant kidney disease or inappropriate body weight for treatment would require careful evaluation.
You can watch the full explanation in the Weight Care in Midlife | Dr. Corinne Menn - Contraindications and Special Cases chapter here.
At Alloy, our medical team conducts a thorough consultation to review your health history and make sure GLP-1 therapy is safe and appropriate for you.
