Is using a prescription vaginal estrogen cream under the eyes a standard approach?
Not really. Using a prescription vaginal estrogen cream under the eyes is better thought of as an off-label approach, not a standard, intended use.
Here at Alloy, we do have expert discussion saying some dermatologists have used vaginal estrogen on thin facial skin, including under the eyes, for years. Dr. Ellen Gendler specifically said she’s used vaginal estrogen cream under her eyes, and Dr. Corinne Menn notes that many women have tried vaginal estrogen on the face. But vaginal estrogen cream is FDA-approved for genitourinary symptoms, not for the eye area.
The reason we created M4 Eye Cream Rx is that vaginal cream isn’t formulated for facial skin. In our educational content, Dr. Menn explains that vaginal creams can be waxier, may include ingredients meant for vaginal absorption and shelf life, and can sting or burn if they get near the eyes. Our eye cream is made specifically for that delicate area and uses estriol, which is a weaker form of estrogen than estradiol.
