### Why is it so hard to lose weight right now?

Weight changes in midlife aren't a mystery. They come from hormone changes that shift how your body stores fat, regulates appetite, and burns calories. The whole game changes. And yet? Most weight-management programs are built for a completely different stage of life. "Eat less, move more, push harder." As if nothing fundamental shifted.

Not at Alloy. Because we understand menopause like no one else and offer GLP-1 solutions alongside personalized, ongoing, doctor-only care.

### What is Zepbound® KwikPen® (tirzepatide)?

Zepbound® KwikPen® activates the receptors of two hormones: glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) to help regulate blood sugar, curb appetite, and support sustainable weight loss.

Here’s how it works:

- __Reduces Hunger & Cravings__ – Targets appetite centers in the brain to curb food intake
- __Enhances Fullness & Satisfaction__ – Slows digestion so you feel full longer with smaller meals
- __Promotes Fat Loss__ – Aids in losing excess fat, including stubborn belly fat, which is common during menopause, for better body composition
- __Supports Healthy Insulin Levels__ – Helps your pancreas release the right amount of insulin when blood sugar is high
- __Balances Blood Sugar__ – Lowers sugar production in the liver and improves insulin response.

### What is a GLP-1 medication, and how does it work?

GLP-1 medications help regulate blood sugar and support weight loss by slowing digestion, reducing appetite, and improving insulin function. [Read more](/blog/how-do-glp-1s-work)

### Can I take GLP-1 medication with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)?

Yes! There are no contraindications for the two medications to be used simultaneously. In fact, some early data shows that there could be benefits to using GLP-1s and HRT together. HRT has been shown to result in better distribution of body fat.

A recent study showed that women who were taking semaglutide and HRT had better weight loss results compared to women taking semaglutide who were not on HRT. Another recent study showed that tirzepatide with HRT may also have beneficial results. [Read more](/blog/why-glp-1s-and-mht-are-a-beneficial-combination)

### Do I need a prescription for GLP-1 medications?

Yes, a prescription is required.

Getting started begins with a medical intake, where health history, symptoms, and goals are reviewed. Based on this information, a provider determines whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate and recommends the next step in care.

If prescribed, ongoing treatment is managed by a physician, with continued support and direct messaging available throughout the program.

### How is Alloy different from other weight care programs?

Alloy Weight Care is designed specifically for midlife, with care guided by menopause-trained physicians who understand the hormonal and metabolic changes that can impact weight over time.

With Alloy, members have 24/7 access to menopause-trained physicians through a flexible, telehealth-based model, along with a personalized care plan developed after an online consultation. Treatment is designed to support weight loss in a way that is medically guided, individualized, and sustainable.

For those also using menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), care can be coordinated when clinically appropriate. Some early data suggests there may be benefits to using GLP-1 medications alongside MHT. In addition to prescription GLP-1 medications, the program includes:

- Lifestyle and nutritional support
- Emphasis on sustainable habits, movement, and nutrition alongside treatment
- Telehealth-based care with flexible access
- Asynchronous prescribing and monitoring designed for convenience and continuity
- Ongoing treatment optimization
- Regular dose adjustments and monitoring to support progress and safety
- Community support
- Access to support groups and a community of women navigating similar experiences

### How much weight can I expect to lose, and when will I start to see results?

Weight loss varies significantly based on individual factors (metabolism, adherence, starting weight, diet, exercise, medication chosen, and dosing). That said, clinical data of the branded products shows: Average weight loss by medication type:

Average weight loss by medication type:

- Zepbound (tirzepatide): ~20% of body weight in 12 months
- Wegovy Pen/Pill (semaglutide): ~15% of body weight in 12 months

Timeline for results:
Weeks 1-4: Appetite changes begin; mild side effects as body adjusts
Months 1-3: Food noise quiets; weight loss becomes noticeable
Months 3-6: Continued steady progress
6-12 months: Maximum results typically achieved

Important context for midlife: Hormonal changes in perimenopause and menopause can slow weight loss compared to younger women. Your Alloy physician understands these challenges and adjusts expectations and treatment accordingly.Beyond the scale: Many women also experience: reduced food thoughts, better appetite control, improved energy, better sleep, and healthier body composition—benefits that matter beyond just weight.

### How long will I need to be on a GLP-1 medication and will I regain weight if I stop?

GLP-1 medications are often used to treat a chronic condition, including metabolic changes related to hormones, similar to how medications for blood pressure or cholesterol are used over time.

**Treatment timelines vary based on individual goals and response**, but many people require ongoing treatment to maintain results. After reaching a goal weight, some transition to a lower maintenance dose.

Discontinuing treatment may lead to weight regain, although outcomes can vary from person to person.

Flexible care phases at Alloy:

- Weight loss phase: Higher doses, active titration
- Optimization phase: Finding your effective maintenance dose
- Maintenance phase: Lower long-term doses to sustain results
- Important for midlife: Hormonal changes that made weight gain easier
don't reverse when you stop medication. Many women find that maintenance dosing provides sustainable appetite support as they age.
- Your Alloy physician supports you through all phases—whether that's continued treatment, transitioning to maintenance, or carefully stopping if you choose. You’re never limited to a one-size-fits-all approach.

### Can I switch between options if my needs change?

Yes, absolutely. Alloy care is designed to be flexible, allowing treatment to evolve as needs and goals change, all within the same trusted care team.

How switching works: Discuss with your Alloy physician anytime through your Alloy dashboard—unlimited access included. They'll evaluate if switching is clinically appropriate and guide the transition to ensure continuity of care without disruption.

You're never locked into one option or forced to find a new provider when your needs change.

### Do you accept insurance or offer insurance reimbursement?

Alloy does not currently accept insurance for GLP-1 weight care medications or the monthly program fee. All costs are out-of-pocket.

Why we don't accept insurance:
Insurance coverage for GLP-1 weight management is limited and inconsistent.
Some plans only cover for diabetes, not weight management
Prior authorization processes create delays and barriers

What this means for you:

- Transparent pricing: You know exactly what you'll pay from day one
- Faster access: No waiting for prior authorization or insurance approval
- More options: Insurance typically covers only one branded medication; Alloy offers 6 options
- Consistent care: No disruption if insurance coverage changes
- Potential reimbursement: Some patients submit receipts to their HSA/FSA for reimbursement, or file out-of-network claims with their insurance. Alloy can provide documentation (receipts, prescriptions) for these purposes, though coverage is not guaranteed.
- Flexible pricing: We offer options starting at $70/month for medication to make physician-led GLP-1 care more accessible than premium branded-only pricing.

### Is Alloy Weight Care available in my state?

Alloy Weight Care is available in most U.S. states.

In Alabama, Arkansas, California, Nevada, and Washington, DC, we offer FDA-approved medications only. Compounded and microdosed options are not yet available in those states.

We are not able to serve weight care patients in Louisiana or Mississippi.
