## Why are compounded GLP-1 medications discouraged?

Compounded GLP-1 medications are discouraged primarily due to **safety and quality concerns**.

In a recent conversation with Dr. Disha Narang, she explained that:

- There is **no safety or efficacy data** on compounded GLP-1 agents
- There have been **over a dozen reported deaths** associated with compounded versions in recent years
- Some compounded products have been found to contain **impurities**
- We do not always know exactly what substances are included in compounded formulations
- Now that branded medications are no longer in shortage, there is **no clear indication** for using compounded alternatives
