# Acidic Vulvar Environment in Management

> Why acidic vaginal pH matters in menopause: learn how it supports lactobacillus, lowers UTI risk, and helps relieve GSM symptoms.

## Why is maintaining an acidic vulvar environment relevant in management?

Because a healthy vagina is naturally acidic. That acidity helps lactobacillus, the beneficial bacteria, stay dominant, and that helps suppress harmful bacteria and fight infection.

When estrogen drops in perimenopause and menopause, the vaginal pH can become less acidic. In our materials, that shift is tied to changes in the vaginal flora, thinning and dryness of tissue, and a higher risk of irritation and recurrent UTIs. So in management, restoring that more acidic environment matters because it supports healthier tissue and a healthier microbiome.

Here at Alloy, that’s one reason vaginal estrogen can be helpful for GSM. Our content notes that it can restore vaginal pH, hydrate the vaginal walls, and help reduce recurrent UTIs.
